The 39 Steps (1935)

Wednesday June 25 @ 7pm
Plus a Hitchcock Trivia Contest! A heart-racing spy story by Alfred Hitchcock, The 39 Steps follows a Canadian man he stumbles upon a conspiracy that thrusts him into a hectic chase across the Scottish moors—a chase in which he is both the pursuer and the pursued—as well as into an unexpected romance with a mysterious woman. Adapted from a novel by John Buchan, this classic wrong-man thriller from the Master of Suspense anticipates the director’s most famous works (especially North by Northwest), and remains one of his cleverest and most entertaining films.
Starring Robert Donat, Madeleine Carroll / Directed by Alfred Hitchcock / 86 minutes

I Know Where I'm Going (1945)

Wednesday July 9 @ 7pm
Presented with WW2-era pre-show entertainment! In Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s stunningly photographed comedy, romance flourishes in an unlikely place—the bleak and moody Scottish Hebrides. Wendy Hiller stars as a headstrong young woman who travels to these remote isles to marry a rich lord. Stranded by stormy weather, she meets a handsome naval officer (Roger Livesey) who threatens to thwart her carefully laid-out life plans.
Starring Wendy Hiller / Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger / 91 minutes

New 50th Anniversary Restoration! The Beatles—playing slapstick versions of themselves—travel from their home town of Liverpool to London to perform in a television broadcast. Along the way they must rescue Paul's unconventional grandfather from various misadventures and drummer Ringo goes missing just before the crucial concert.
At the 7pm screening event, guitarist Barry Lovegrove will share his memories of the UK rock 'n' roll scene of the early 1960's!

Withnail & I (1987)

Wednesday August 6 @ 7pm
19+ licensed screening: drink along with the lads! London. The 1960s. Two unemployed actors—acerbic, elegantly wasted Withnail and the anxiety-ridden "I"—drown their frustrations in booze, pills, and lighter fluid. When Withnail’s Uncle Monty offers his stone cottage north to Penrith, they escape the squalor of their flat for a week in the country. They soon realize they’ve gone on holiday by mistake when their wits—and friendship—are sorely tested by violent downpours, less than hospitable locals, and empty cupboards.
Starring Richard E. Grant, Paul McGann / Directed by Bruce Robinson / 107 minutes

Summer Holiday (1963)

Wednesday August 13 @ 7pm
Presented with an ice cream interval! Cliff Richard (Britain's answer to Elvis) stars as a London Transport worker who head off on a European holiday in a red double decker bus with his friends. Summer Holiday is a time capsule of 1960s optimism, featuring the memorable title song, Cliff's famous trademark song "Bachelor Boy," the foot-stomping classic "Dancing Shoes" and the film's finale "Big News"!
Starring Cliff Richard / Directed by Peter Yates / 107 minutes

Last Holiday (1950)

Wednesday August 27 @ 7pm
Plus a series closing reception after the film. Told by his doctor he has no more than a few months to live, drab British workingman George Bird (Alec Guinness) decides to spend his savings on lodging at a seaside resort. Once there, however, he finds his identity caught between upstairs and downstairs, the guests and the "help." A droll social commentary as well as an unpredictable dark comedy about life, death, and luck, Last Holiday is one of Guinness’s finest moments.
Starring Alec Guinness / Directed by Henry Cass / 88 minutes
